IKO Ridge Vent Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install IKO ridge vent systems across Long Beach, and most full replacements run between $380 and $680 installed, depending on ridge length and access. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably spotted rust flakes in your gutter, felt damp air in your attic, or watched a shingle lift at the ridge line during the last Santa Ana wind event. The good news: this is a same-day fix for us in most cases, and we carry the parts on the truck so you’re not waiting on a supplier run.

Most Long Beach homeowners discover their ridge vent failed the same way: a drip stain on the ceiling near an interior wall, or an attic that suddenly feels like a sauna in July. Ridge vents sit at the highest point of your roof, so when the IKO profile cracked or the nail flange separated, moisture and heat stop venting and start building up instead. We see it most often on homes in Naples and Belmont Heights where marine air accelerates corrosion on the exposed aluminum edges.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO makes a few ridge vent configurations, and matching the replacement to your existing profile matters more than most homeowners realize. The two you’ll most likely have on a Long Beach roof are the IKO Ultra HP and the IKO Ridge Vent Shingle-Over II. They are not interchangeable: the Ultra HP has a steeper internal baffle and a wider 12-inch base that overhangs more aggressively than the Shingle-Over II’s 10.5-inch profile. If a contractor slaps the wrong one on, you get an uneven ridge line and air channels that don’t seal against the shingle coursing.

The fastest way to identify yours: pull back the last shingle flap at the ridge and look for the molded IKO logo on the plastic matrix, or measure the exposed width. 9 inches visible means Ultra HP. 7.5 to 8 inches visible usually means Shingle-Over II. You’ll also find a date code stamped on the underside – if it reads pre-2012, IKO’s older resin formula was more prone to UV embrittlement, and that’s almost certainly why it cracked. For aftermarket equivalents, Air Vent’s ShingleVent II matches the profile closely enough to work, but we’ve found the IKO OEM part holds its rigidity better in Long Beach’s salt air. We stock both and will show you the difference before we install.

Crestview Roofing Co Long Beach is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with IKO. We simply work with their materials every week, along with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed, so we know which parts match which rooflines.

Signs Your IKO Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Attic temperature spikes on moderate days. A working ridge vent should keep your attic within 10 to 15 degrees of outside air temperature. When the baffle channels collapse or the vent opening gets blocked with dust and old insulation, that differential jumps past 30 degrees, and you’ll feel it through the ceiling.
  • Shingle edges lifting at the ridge line. The nail flange on IKO ridge vents loosens over time as the plastic expands and contracts. When it separates from the decking, wind gets underneath and pries up the cap shingles. In Long Beach’s gusty spring afternoons, that flapping is the sound of your vent losing its seal.
  • Rust stains or white chalky residue running down from the ridge. The aluminum components in IKO vent systems don’t love salt air. In coastal pockets like Alamitos Bay or the Peninsula, we regularly find pitted aluminum baffles and corroded end caps within eight to ten years. The white chalk is aluminum oxide, and the rust means the steel fasteners were never swapped for compatible coated versions.
  • Musty smell or visible mold near interior ceilings. A failing ridge vent stops exhausting moisture, so humidity sits in the attic and condenses on the underside of the roof deck. You’ll notice it first in bathrooms with ceiling fans and in closets along the ridge line.
  • Sunlight visible through the ridge opening when you’re in the attic. If the vent matrix has cracked and collapsed, gaps form that break the weather seal. You should see light through the vent channels from below, but not daylight streaming through a broken plastic grid. That’s a direct path for rain and embers.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Long Beach homes, expect to pay $380 to $480 for a typical single-ridge replacement of up to 30 linear feet using the correct IKO part. Longer ridgelines, multi-directional roofs, or two-story setups push that toward $520 to $680 because of added ladder time, safety tie-offs, and waste from cutting around existing cap shingles.

Every quote includes the full parts cost, the removal and disposal of the old vent, new cap shingles matched to your existing IKO color where possible, and the labor to seat and nail the new vent with galvanized ring-shank nails. The price you get in writing before we start is the price on the invoice. Our workmanship on the vent installation is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No fine print, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

If you want to diagnose before you call, grab a flashlight and a ladder and check the attic side of the ridge. Look for daylight through cracked plastic, feel for dampness around the ridge board, and note whether any cap shingles lift when you push up gently from below. Those observations help us quote accurately over the phone.

What you shouldn’t do is swap a ridge vent yourself. Ridge vent replacement means stripping cap shingles, pulling the old vent, seatting new material over a working air channel, and re-nailing along a roof peak, all while balancing on the highest, most exposed part of your roof. We see DIY jobs fail within a season because the nail pattern was off, the end caps weren’t sealed, or the vent profile didn’t actually match the old IKO. We work on Long Beach roofs weekly, from flat commercial jobs near the Port to tight Spanish-style bungalows in Rose Park, and ridge work is one of the places where the right tools and a second set of hands matter most. Call (562) 471-4832 and we’ll get you a written price before any work begins.
